At the present stage, historians are actively discussing the problems of relationships and mutual influences of history and biography. In our opinion, this is due to noticeable changes in historical science, which caused a significant reorientation of research interests, the discovery of new subjects and topics of biographical research, as well as new directions and methods. Considering these factors, this article attempts to consider some of the most frequently discussed theoretical and methodological problems, including modern ideas of historians about biography, its goals and objectives, the role and importance of biographical research for
historical science, types of biographies, historiography of the problem.
