Activities of Kazakh officials of the colonial administration of the Steppe region

Abstract

In the article the administrative and official activities of the Kazakh representatives of the colonial administration on official and award lists, orders of governors-general and military governors of the Steppe region are considered. Of the notes official orders on the parish governors, the national judges, aul foremen and employees of other departmental colonial institutions are unique written sources and materials on the history of the service activities of the Kazakh officials of the colonial administration. Studying and analyzing office documents of the office of the steppe governor-general, the authors show the state and peculiarities of the work of the local administrative bureaucracy apparatus, character of management of the Kazakh officials. The position of the official determined his role in the Kazakh society at the last stage of the colonial period (1891–1917). Award lists show that Kazakh officials in the Steppe were often awarded with bathrobes of several categories and watches, in rare cases — with medals. For the convenience of the study, the orders of the colonial administration are divided into several groups.
