Since the 20th century, ideas about the role of women, who are involved in many spheres of life (politics, economics, education, healthcare), have been changing in the world. As we know, the 20th century gave Ka-zakh women declared rights, which secured for women the freedom to choose a lifestyle, profession, and per-sonal interests. In this regard, studying the role of women in Kazakh society in the first half of the twentieth century is an urgent task of national history at the present stage. Therefore, this article is devoted to the study of the position and role of the Kazakh woman in traditional culture. The authors' attention is focused on changes in the social status of Kazakh women that occurred at the beginning of the twentieth century. The practical significance of the article lies in the consideration of the works of scientific researchers (culturolo-gists, historians, philosophers, sociologists) on the place and role of women in the history of Kazakhstan.
