The Peoples of the North Caucasus in Central Kazakhstan: Forced Resettlement and Adaptation

Abstract

This article explores the history of the forced resettlement and subsequent adaptation of the peoples of the North Caucasus in Kazakhstan. The study is based on the analysis of regulatory documents, business correspondence, and archival materials from regional and central archives of the republic. The peculiarities of the transportation, reception, provision of food, employment, and socio-economic adaptation of the special settlers were examined. Of particular interest is the study of the challenges and difficulties that accompanied the adaptation of the peoples of the North Caucasus in Kazakhstan after the forced resettlement. A critical analysis of these aspects allows for a deeper understanding of the consequences of this period of history for the resettled people and their influence on the contemporary state of society and culture in Kazakhstan.
