In the article the Soviet model of state religious policy, implemented in the south of Kazakhstan during the Soviet period was examined. The author of this article pays attention to the problems of periodization of religious policy in the Kazakh SSR. The article analyzes the legislative basis of the religious policy of the Soviet state, examines the characteristics of the forms and methods of the anti-religious struggle of the Soviet state, substantiates the thesis about its detrimental influence on the spiritual life of Muslims, examines the ways of implementing state religious policy in the south of Kazakhstan during the Soviet period
