Abstract

In modern times, the most relevant for the study of international organizations, including the study of the SCO, is the question of how important is the modern expansion of this structure for the system of international relations. Historically, the expansion of the organization has gained importance from 2004–2005. The article analyzes the interests of SCO observer countries, as well as the problem of the «road map» of these countries for joining the SCO.The author assumes that the prospects for expanding the SCO are rather contradictory: the SCO at the present stage is not ready for expansion at the expense of Iran and Mongolia. The author comes to the conclusion that in the near future the expansion of the SCO is problematic, even if India and Pakistan will embark on the implementation of this road map.
