Abstract

The authors focus on the analysis of the role of world historiography in the modernization of the educational potential of historical knowledge, including in relation to the experience of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The article, based on a comprehensive review of existing points of view of foreign historians, highlights the role of historical knowledge in shaping the national consciousness of the young generation in the context of spiritual modernization as one of the participants in the processes of social transformation. The analysis of the experience of advanced foreign countries in the formation of public consciousness in the framework of modernization processes revealed a special interest of researchers in defining the civilizational bases of modernization processes in different countries in different historical periods that formed and continue to form a unique modernization profile of their country. This provides you to discover effective ways, social historical and cultural variables, the underlying causes and mechanisms, recipes and secrets of the «progressive» and «accelerated» modernization development of foreign countries. There are two characteristic trends in the development of historical knowledge in the context of the competence-based model of education: one aimed at closer linking history teaching with the development of personality and the skills of independent creative critical thinking, with the formation of qualities that allow any citizen to make a choice in a democratic society; and the other, in which the patriotic and spiritual values of society are highlighted. This allowed the authors of the article to assert that historical education, patriotic and multicultural education can confront a spiritual crisis and help in the formation of a renewed national consciousness.
