Abstract

Cities that once served as military or industrial hubs often face the need to adapt to new realities after the withdrawal or reduction of these activities. Priozersk has gone through similar changes. This place has become a testament to the strength and fear of the landfill age, but with the collapse of the Soviet Union and the cessation of landfill testing, Priozersk faces the task of rethinking its place in history and culture. The space of the city of Priozersk, as well as many other post-Soviet cities, bears traces of a difficult past, that is, traumatic memory. The landfill tests conducted on the territory of the city left an imprint not only on the physical space, but also on the cultural memory of the residents. Currently, the city is facing the task of updating its appearance, while preserving its cultural and historical heritage and cultural traditions. In this regard, in this article, the author tries to describe the “social feeling” of the city as the center of the landfill, as
a secret and closed city, as a military city, as a tourist object. To create and describe the infrastructure of the
city and memory, the author considers revitalization, renovation and gentrification as an approach, tool and
method. The results of field research allow us to get a picture of the current state of the city's infrastructure
and the preservation of historical and cultural memory by local residents. The process of reconstruction of the city of Priozersk requires an integrated approach that takes into account both the historical and cultural heritage and the needs of residents. Special attention is paid to the preservation and revival of cultural memory in the context of state cultural policy.
